UNDERSTANDING DOTS, LINES AND SHAPES

As earlier explained pictures are good communication tools.  Cartoon drawings are no exceptions; in fact they various types of lines and shapes connote special meanings. It is therefore very imperative to learn what each type of symbolic drawing represents. Note that for each of the ones to be mentioned below there are various variations, all depending on use and according to the artist’s ingenuity. But before we delve further, let’s talk a bit about their basic building blocks, which are: dots, dashes, lines and shapes.  They all still fall within the elements of Arts; I am sure some students of art would understand.

IDM INTRODUCES ANIMATION TECHNOLOGY TO AFRICA



In a bit to promoting the teaching of Computer Graphics, Animation and Gamming theory in the schools’ curriculum, IDM global learning center teamed up with TOONZ Entertainment group to bring to Nigeria a world class Animation experience. Toonz academy is a top notch animation schools in India; it was established in 2002 with a vision to honing the skills of students with a passion for animation and creating a talent pool of skilled workforce for the animation industry. Toonz Digital is primarily involved in Web TV and Game development and consultancy services for social media space.

With the same goal in mind, IDM Nigeria, located at IDM Building, Oba-Akran Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos, organized a two week Boot Camp vocational training program on Animation and Gaming for students and teachers. The latter groups were to spread the potentials of the animation industry and to introduce the subjects in their respective schools. This workshop was led by renowned animator and writer, Mr. Prosenjit  Ganguly, popularly called PJ. He is an alumnus of the national institute of designs (NID), a professional film maker and mentor, whose clientele include top broadcasters like Turner International, global studios like Toonz Entertainment and Electronics Arts. He is also a visiting faculty at top Design Schools like MIT Pune, DJ Academy of Design, Symbiosis Institute of Design and Cept University. His works have been showcased at prestigious film festivals in over 20 countries and winning several international awards. 

ANIMATION PRACTICAL SESSIONS



With hands-on exercises, the students involved were able to understand the processes involved in making their favorites cartoons. They also individually and collectively made some animated videos by themselves.
