THEY
ALL TOOK A BOW
They arrived at the ditch and the snake crawled in as earlier planned. The
monkey was glad to get out before the erosion would come. Quickly, he ran to
the trapped grass cutter and freed him and even put some bandages around his
wounded leg. The grass cutter limped to the caged bird and freed him
before the bird catcher would return. The bird too quickly flew to the top of
the tree and broke the cobweb to free the weak fly before the spider would
return.
The fly was happy and thanked the bird, but
the bird refused to accept the compliment and directed it to the grass cutter
instead. The grass cutter in turn refused and directed it to the monkey. But
Mr. Monkey also refused and directed it to the snake. The Snake too wouldn’t
accept such compliment either; and said he was only returning an earlier favour
done to him by the monkey himself. Then he remembered their little friend and
said, “But we all should be most thankful to the Ant here, because without him
going the extra mile, despite all his troubles too, none of us here would have
thought of returning home by now.”
“Thank you Mr. Ant.”They all
echoed uniformly. And they bowed for their little friend.
“I accept your compliments, “said
the Ant. “But I am still very grateful to Mr. Snake because if he hadn’t
annoyed the eagle so much, I am sure no Plume would have accidentally
dropped. And without that I would have drowned. And if I had drowned I wouldn’t
have known what would have
happened next.”
At first the snake was speechless, he knew he did not really deserve the compliment but reluctantly
accepted and said, “You are welcome! But I still want to seize this
opportunity to thank you specially my little friend. You have shown us all that
even though one may be small
he does not necessarily have a small
heart. Yours is the biggest heart here, it is forgiving and
compassionate. And your example today has really taught us all a big lesson; we need
to start standing up for one another and stop being selfish! Everyone is
too busy to care about what the other person’s problem is. Despite Mr.
Ant’s problems, he was able to demonstrate to us that other
animal’s concerns were his too. We really want to thank you once again Mr
Ant.”
Simultaneously they all re-echoed the word, “Thank you!” They took a bow once again for their
little friend for the last time and they all went back home!
SUMMARY
(SO THAT WE CAN ALL GO
HOME!)
A
kind Ant was refused help by a fellow insect, the housefly. But not so long, the housefly also got into
trouble and needed help from the pigeon and was also denied. The denial went on further until the Eagle’s plume
miraculously dropped from the sky.
While
returning home the ant saw the troubled housefly in the spider’s cobweb but he wouldn't want to repay evil for evil. He decided to act fast but discovered
that the process was more complicated than he had imagined.
