THE LEGEND
At the middle of the night when there was no body around, Bale suddenly
became transformed into a boy again. However, he had become bald and very weak,
and to make matters worse, his left ear was chopped off and was bleeding. Then,
he realized that the leaves he had shed indiscriminately were his hair and that
part of the branches that the old man had cut represented his left ear. He
became very ashamed of the way he looked and for that reason fled the village
that same night before he could be seen by any other living thing apart from the trees.
The next morning, the news of the missing
tree circulated. The new chief also heard and came to confirm if the rumour was
true. It was, and his worries were suddenly over. He had never really wanted to
cut off the tree. But what he did was to threaten the boy in order to have a
rethink, but it seemed it was getting longer than expected.
And finally everyone was glad that the
tree was no more there. Even till today no one can say exactly what had
happened in the end to Bale Onidoti because he was neither seen nor heard of by
anyone again. And apart from the trees, no other person knew the complete
story. So people formulated several
tales to complete what eventually happened to the tree boy and in turn, Bale
became a legend!
